Urban Scénos Kinshasa / Lingwala

La résidence de Scénographies urbaines de Kinshasa a eu lieu du 15 décembre 2006 au 7 janvier 2007, à Lingwala, dans et autour de l’Académie des Beaux Arts. // The Urban Scenography residency in Kinshasa took place from the 15th of december 2006 until the 7th of january 2007, in and around the Academy of fine arts.

Cela commence par la rencontre en aout 2003 avec 12 jeunes artistes, alors qu’ils réalisent l’installation Kinshasa Wenze Wenze sur l’esplanade de l’Académie des Beaux Arts. C’est l’acte fondateur d’Eza Possibles. Dans l’année qui suit, le collectif se structure finalement autour de 6 personnes : Kennedy Dinanga, Eddy Ekete, Mega Mingiedi, Freddy Mutombo, Kura Shomali, Pathy Tshindele. Et se met en place un processus analogue à ce qui s’est développé avec le Cercle Kapsiki à Douala entre 1999 et 2003.  // It starts in august 2003 when we meet in Kinshasa12 young congolese artists. At that time they are working on an installation « Kinshasa Wenze Wenze » on the Fine Arts Academy main esplanade. This is the first moment of the « Eza Possibles » collective group. Then the group organize itself with 6 permanent members : -Kennedy Dinanga, Eddy Ekete, Mega Mingiedi, Freddy Mutombo, Kura Shomali, Pathy Tshindele-. And we start to develop with them an similar process the one we had wit Kapsiki Circle in Douala, between 1999 and 2003.

La relation entre les deux collectifs s’organise à partir de 2004 autour d’allers et retours des artistes impliqués dans le projet. En 2004/2005, Kura Shomali passe 6 mois en résidence à l’Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg. En 2005/2006 Mega Mingiedi et Pathy Tshindele font de même. Eddy Ekete est, lui, inscrit en tant qu’étudiant à l’ESAD. Jean Christophe Lanquetin, Virginie DuprayetFrancois Duconseille circulent entre Paris et Kinshasa pour les besoins de projets en cours, (Partenariat ABA/ESAD, Studios Kabako…). La régularité des allers retours permet d’inventer du compagnonnage, condition sine qua non à la réalisation de la résidence de Kinshasa. // The relationship between the 2 artist’s groups become more precise in 2004 with circulations of the artists involved in the project. In 2005/2005 Kura Shomali spends 6 months in residency at l’Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, in Strasburg (France). In 2005/2006 it is the same with Mega Mingiedi and Pathy Tshindele. Eddy Ekete is at the same time permanent student in Strasburg. J-Christophe Lanquetin, Virginie Dupray and Francois Duconseille are regularly travelling between France and Congo in link with many projects (Partnership between Academy of Fine Arts in Kin and the Strasburg school of art, Studios Kabako dance company…). The regularity of these « come and go » allows us to develop a « compagnonnage », which is the main condition to be able to realize together that kind of in context artist’s residency.

Depuis juin 2005 le collectif dispose d’un lieu de travail et de stockage, à Lingwala,l’espace Pamba Pamba Té, sur Boukama, et réalise des projets soit collectifs, soit individuels (voir bilan d’activité / processus). // Since june 2005 the Eza Possibles group has a working and storage place, the « Pamba Pamba té » space, on Boukama avenue. They develop collective and individual projects.

La résidence est programmée pour le mois de septembre 2006, mais le processus électoral en RDC vient perturber ce planning et à la demande de l’Ambassade de France à Kinshasa, nous devons la reporter au mois de décembre 2006. Cette décision de report est difficile, en particulier pour les congolais. Durant l’été 2006, malgré l’incertitude liée au processus électoral, nous maintenons un programme minimum qui nous permet d’être durablement ensemble à Kinshasa. Outre Virginie Durpay et JcLanquetin, deux artistes viennent à Kinshasa, Antoine d’Agata (qui fait ainsi la « résidence » avant tous les autres) et Dorothée Kreutzfeldt. Ces deux séjours sont importants car ils permettent d’entrevoir ce que seront les Scéno Urbaines. Antoine mène son travail photographique, essaye de résider au quartier mais n’y parvient guère. Dorothée vient en repérage 10 jours, sans chercher particulièrement à travailler. JcLanquetin et elle habitent dans Lingwala, sur Kitega et prennent la mesure de l’expérience physique et humaine que cela représente. // The residency is planned for september 2006, but because of the election process in DRC Congo we have to delay it until december. That decision is quite hard to take, especially for the congolese artists. During the summer 2006, even though the situation is uncertain because of the election process, we maintain a minimum programm. The frensh team, Virginie Dupray, JcLanquetin, spend time in Kinshasa. And 2 artists come and work in Kin, Antoine d’Agata and Dorothée Kreutzfeldt. These two stays are important, through them we can anticipate what the residency will be. Antoine is working on a photographic project, he is trying to live in the area but it doesn’t work so well. Dorothée is there to see the place, for 10 days, without trying to work. JcLanquetin and her, are living inside Lingwala, in Kitega avenue, and discover the dimension of the physical and human experience it is to live there.

Entre septembre et décembre, dans un contexte de fin du processus électoral (second tour des élections) particulièrement tendu et inquiet, Eza Possibles organise et structure la résidence dans le quartier. Travail de communication auprès des habitants, repérages et aménagement de maisons où résideront les artistes, recherche de sponsors locaux, obtentions de soutiens officiels, notamment le patronnage du Ministère de la Culture. ScU2 de son coté s’occupe des recherches de financements, des billets d’avion… Un petit nombre d’artistes se sont désistés, principalement parce-que la résidence correspond aux fêtes de fin d’année. Certains sont remplacés. Le processus électoral se termine le 7 décembre, et le 15, les premiers artistes atterrissent à Kinshasa. // Between september and december, in the context of a particularly strained ending election process (second tour), Eza Possibles is organizing the residency in the area. Communication work with the inhabitants, choice of locations, fitting out the houses where artists will live, research of local sponsors, obtaining official supports, especially with the Ministry of Culture. ScU2 at the same time is working on fundings researchs, plane tickets… A few artists have withdraw, mainly because the new time is during chrismas and new year. Some of them are replaced. The elections process ends on the 7th of december, and on the 15th, the first artists are landing in Kinshasa.
